It has been too long! So a quick hello and an update are in order.
Last month I did a writing workshop for the Young Writers Conference in Scarsdale, New York--500 kids ages 8-11 all gathered for a half-day of writing. Amazing. This is the 10th year of the event and the students were really serious and dedicated to their writing.
I found out recently that The Box Children is the November selection of the Juvenile Court Book Club out in California. This is a not-for-profit organization that gives books to young people in detention centers and holds monthly discussion groups hosted by volunteers. I'm going to answer questions online and the kids are going to write and tell me something about their lives.
And last, I just received an advance copy of a new book, Conversations with Texas Writers, which I'm in, photo and interview! It's a beautiful volume published by the University of Texas Press, and is a project of Humanities Texas. Very cool.
Meanwhile I'm writing/avoiding writing novel #2. As Lou Ann would say, 'Wish me luck!'
The Box Children is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places,
and incidents either are the product of the author's imagination or are
used fictitiously, and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead,
business establishments, events or locales is entirely coincidental.
